Fluke T5-T2 Multi-testers

The T5-T2 multi-testers were designed for the what we referred to at the time the industrial parametric. The idea for these testers came out of extensive research effort into the needs of electricians that work in industrial facilities where time is money. When a factory is down these technicians need particular functions accessible right away and not have to fumble through multiple pieces of test equipment to troubleshoot the problem.

ROLE

Design Lead Program Management User Research Modeler

One handed operation was so important to this user. The user could store the test leads in the back and probe the circuits while holding the meter in one hand. With your thumb you could rotate the dial to change functions. The front u shaped fork was a new revolutionary way to measure current without a needing a clamp meter. The small detail bump near the end of the probe was visual and tactile way to warn users to stay back from the end of the probe to avoid a potential shock.

The long flexible test lead wires exit the product and have over molded strain reliefs to prevent the wires from damage and over flexing. The test leads are designed to have different snap on attachments and can also be removed to add alligators clips to the wire ends.

Product storage and management of the cables was a must. This holster was a valuable piece of kit that could be attached to the belt and allow users to comfortable carry this with them as they monitor the facilities.

During my time with Fluke I was fortunate to work on may products from scope meters to clamp meters and smaller handheld testers for token ring and ethernet testing. I’ve included a few additional product images in the carousel above.
